Our annual tournament was slated for July 23rd - 26th 2008. It took several months of planning; many hours of fretting and slaving over scheduling software, and other work to put on but it turned out even better than last year. I, Brian, was put in charge of scheduling the tournament and not being very good at it, I tend to make a pretty good mess of it before it finally all comes together.
Wendi always signs on to help with registrations, and this year she threw her help along with me in finalizing and correcting the scheduling. Thank goodness for her.
The boys all played with their teams, Ty with the U14 Premier team who took 2nd place, Christian with his U16 team who didn't place, and Jens with his U18 Premier team who lost a heart breaker in the championship 0-1 taking 2nd place.
During Jens's game he went up for a header from a punt off the goal keeper, at about 60 yards downfield he rose easily over the offensive player ready to head the ball out of his teams end as he always does. But this time the offensive player pushed Jens just enough to make his head turn and the ball hit Jens directly in the jaw knocking him unconscious for a few seconds. He tried to stand after a minute and went down again. He was really out of it for a good 5 minutes but he wouldn't be held out and after some ice on his neck, a few ibuprofin, some water, and a little jog, he put himself back in the game. Unfortunately, while he was out of the game being glossy eyed, the substitute center fullback lost contact with an attacking player and that's when they scored their goal. UNLUCKY!!!
In addition to playing 4 and 5 games each, Christian and Jens each refereed several games at the tournament earning them 50 and 80 respectively. After finishing the tournament cleanup and everything later than 10:00 Saturday evening we all went to eat and then home to sleep. The tournament was EXHAUSTING. Sunday after church our house looked someone had gassed it. bodies were passed out all over the chairs and beds as if everyone were dead. They all napped very heavily, peacefully. Even our sweet little puppy named Adi.
